Achievements

Julian earned his B.S. in kinesiology – exercise science with a minor in chemistry. He graduated Cum Laude as well as with honors through the University Honors Program. He was able to participate in research through both the CSULB’s kinesiology department and nutrition department, where he was awarded a scholarship and presented at an international conference (Experimental Biology 2016). The supplemental chemistry courses allowed him to bridge the knowledge between exercise physiology and nutrition metabolism, creating a detailed understanding of bioenergetics. One unique extracurricular he was involved in was the nutrition and dietetics department and Student Dietetics Association, where he had the opportunity to take additional classes to gain insight on how to connect nutritional science and fitness. The extensive courses taken outside of his required curriculum allowed Julian to gain a broad vantage on exercise science.

Experience

Julian is a sports performance coach and personal trainer with 8+ years of experience. A few of his involvements ranged from working as a personal trainer at CSULB’s recreation center, UCI WorkStrong Program, and lead trainer for a private gym in Anaheim. In addition, he gained experience through internships where he worked with strength and conditioning coaches training various level athletes, led a youth sports performance camp through UCI, and conducted sports and athletic training testing for CSULB athletes through the Sports Testing and Research program. Julian is constantly pursuing a journey of learning through seminars, reading, and working with people in the health field.

Interests

One of the hobbies that interest Julian is reading. He enjoys immersing in books from different genres ranging from self-improvement books to exercise related textbooks. Julian also enjoys exploring new foods from different cultures through cooking or going to unfamiliar restaurants. This helps him better understand how some cultures have hidden healthy foods/eating habits that are discovered later by science and the rest of the world. In his free time, he enjoys training boxing, Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a way to apply his fitness and conditioning.

Personal Philosophy

Julian’s approach to fitness and health is under a holistic lens, incorporating science into practice. He believes that everything in the body is intertwined and works in synergy, thus leading to the concept that a healthy body will influence all other areas in your life (academics, social, career, etc.). With mentors in various fields, he developed attributes that allow him to shift paradigms while examining issues to strive for better solutions. By having a transdisciplinary approach using exercise physiology, sports nutrition, and biomechanics, this helps clients/athletes achieve their rounded goals–varying from altering body composition, gaining strength, becoming more explosive, improving coordination, and more. With so much to learn about the human body on how it functions and transforms, the journey is lifelong. There is no body exactly alike, so he continues to grow his knowledge in areas of health and fitness to create programs that best suit his clients/athletes. This holistic view aims to balance all 4 pillars (movement, mobility, nutrition, and recovery) to help individuals reach their potential and transcend past their self-imposed limitations.
